Migraines

Sorry no post yesterday, I wasn't feeling so well. If anyone has any pointers about "healing" from migraines, I'd love to hear them. I have been suffering from them for about 16-17 years now. I definitely believe they are hormone related (and sometimes too much chocolate related!). I take either Imitrex or Maxalt for them but both are so terribly expensive and our insurance doesn't cover any part of the cost. Any pointers are welcome!

Also, wanted to share a quick story with you. Yesterday while riding in the car our youngest went to toss her coat into the very back seat and hit her older sister in the eye with the zipper. Tears were flowing as I'm sure it hurt! I scolded my youngest then overheard her quietly saying to the sister she hurt, "I'm sorry, will you forgive me?". WOW! Not just "I'm sorry" then back to what she was doing, but "will you forgive me?". "Will you forgive me?"!! She wanted to make sure that she was forgiven for what she had done. I need to take note of that and learn from my little ones. It's not always about being sorry but truly about asking for and receiving forgiveness. I think there is a HUGE difference. Lesson learned. Have a blessed day!

In Him,
E

Elisabeth,

I've suffered from hormonal related migraines since my first pregnancy at the age of 18.

I've been on all sorts of meds and finally gave up taking them (because of the expense).

What I do now the minute I feel it coming on is take immediately 3 ibuprofens and (this part is weird but it works) pour rubbing alcohol onto a washcloth and lay down with the sock across my head and a pillow over my face. I know it sounds really strange, but someone offered this advice to me about 16 years ago, and I've done it ever since. Within a half hour of laying there without being disturbed, my migraine is usually gone.

Hope this helps!

I don't have any good migraine advice. I also have "hormonal" migraines, but maxalt seems to take the edge off for me. My doctor told me the other alternative is to take hormones to trick your body into thinking it is in menopause without actually being in menopause, or to get a hysterectomy (sp?) He suggested that I just learn to deal with it, and I agree, but it sounds like yours may be worse than mine. Sorry you had a bad day yesterday, hope you are feeling better today!

I used to think going to the chiropractor was nutty UNTIL I GOT MY FIRST MIGRAINE! I started going weekly at first now that I'm ON TRACK-monthly-helped a ton!

I say AMEN to a hysterectomy LOL, I know, not a medical reason ;o)
But also AMEN to the chiro. As a nurse I had an aversion to chiro's, I was afraid I'd be paralyzed or something. Totally neurotic on my part, but anyway. I had such a wicked four day migraine while I was at our cottage last year. A friend told me about the chiro. she goes to and how it helps her and that he's a christian. So after YEARS of digging my heals in I went. After the first treatment my migraine was gone! I also have three herniated discs in my neck and an abnormal curve of my spine, I haven't felt this good in years. I found a chiro I like up in NY too, so now I go about once a month or if I feel a migraine coming on. Miraculous! Maybe your insurance covers chiro's or at least some of it? My chiro's only cost $24-30 full out of pocket expense. Once a month that's worth it for me!
