59 CENTS!!

It bothers me that we (notice I didn't say "you", I said "we") as a society are such consumers. That is precisely why we, as a family, challenged ourselves to buy nothing new this year. I admit that we have seen the need to buy things here and there out of necessity. But, today I completely failed. Fell flat on my face. I spent 59 cents!
59 cents? So what's the big deal?!! Well, I'm going to brag a bit, and this is my blog so I can. A couple of weeks ago I received a $10 gift card in the mail from a local department-type store. Not minimum purchase. Not just on one item. $10 off my total purchase of $10 or more. Yipee! So, card in hand, 2 of my girls and I headed out. I am cheap...or thrifty. Yeah, thrifty is the word. Do you know how terribly hard it was for me to find enough items for $10?!?! We didn't "need" anything. The girls and I scoured the store for deals. We were only up to $5.26 and still needed to spend $4.74 in order to receive $10 off. Ugh- why is it so hard for me?
We FINALLY decided on the things above but only because they were all at least 70% off. We got 2 mini Super Soakers for our gift closet, a pair of earrings for my middle, a beautiful journal for my oldest (she fills and fills those things doing her devotions every day) and 2 mini Yankee candles. And the grand total minus $10....59 cents. Phew!
I then headed to CVS to transfer my migraine medicine prescription. Since I did, they gave me a $25 gift card. Score! An awesome consumer day!
In Him,
E
