We began "Friday Reports" over a year ago as a way for our girls to have a say in what they learn. It is so important that they not only learn but LOVE it! This is the most important part because as long as they are able to pick something they are truly interested it, they enjoy it. It becomes drudgery when I assign them a topic they have no interest it at all. That's the key.

And it works like this-
This week our middle chose "Tongues"
On a given Monday, each of them gets to choose a topic. Any topic. Occasionally I'll tell them it has to be a person or place or.....but for the most part they are free to choose anything they wish. Then the games begin- the kids really do get excited about choosing their topics. Our middle has a list of notebook paper where she keeps a running list of all the things she wants to write about- it is so hard for her to choose!
Typically, they have almost 2 weeks to finish. They have to research- usually online and at the library. They must have a visual aid. The visual aid can be anything- dressed up like the person, a poster board, a model, food, etc. On the "Friday Reports" Friday, we all gather in our family room before lunch and enjoy each presentation. We usually celebrate afterward with some delicious dessert (before lunch, of course!!).

And that's it! The kids love it, we all learn about a topic we may not have otherwise, speaking skills are practiced and we eat dessert!!

**There are no pictures of our oldest because she's still working on her "Queen Elizabeth" presentation.
In Him,
E
